Despite his limited time on the pitch, he has regularly received warm words from his manager.

Amorim was particularly happy with the Englishman’s contribution versus Athletic Club in the semi-final of the Europa League.

Mount has had a positive pre-season and impressed in United’s first match of the new season against Arsenal last weekend.

Better than ever

Speaking to the club’s official website, Mount opened up on how he has been feeling entering the new season.

Mount had his best run of games in a United shirt at the end of last season and he claimed that this has helped him immensely.

He claimed, “it gave me so much confidence. It was so important for me to really have that run of games to finish that season because I hadn’t had that before. It was so important to know that I can do that and, really, that my body feels in such a good place to be able to do that.

As a result he added, “now, I feel even better going into this season” and that he is trying to apply the positive features of his game from last season to this year. He also stated that he is feeling good and is in “a good place”.

Experience of system

Mount also explained how he feels he has been able to impress in Amorim’s specific system after playing in similar formations for Chelsea and the England national team.

He claimed, “I obviously have the experience of playing in his formation and this type of football before, so bringing my knowledge and experience into the team, especially when he came in, was very helpful. A lot of the patterns and a lot the movements, it’s something that I am very used to.”

Speaking on adapting to Amorim he said, “I very quickly knew exactly what he wanted” and that his main objective is to help his teammates around him.

Mount went on to state that the squad is working hard together to try and implement more effectively what Amorim wants.

He finished on a positive note claiming, “we’re all helping each other and every day that goes by we are understanding more and more what the manager wants, and what we can do as a team to improve, so we are getting there.”
