Mount will be out for “several weeks” as injury nightmare continues

Mason Mount admitted he has been left “devastated” by his latest injury setback.

The Manchester United midfielder limped off early in last weekend’s dramatic derby win over Manchester City, continuing what has been a hugely frustrating period at the club since he arrived from Chelsea.

The 25-year-old took to Instagram on Friday night to send a message to United fans, as he vowed to never “lose faith” in his fight to put his injury problems behind him.

Mount posted: “Words can’t portray how devastated I’m feeling right now, you could probably see the look on my face when it happened. I knew what it meant.

“United fans, you may not know me too well yet, but one thing I can guarantee, I will never give up or lose faith.

Amorim has spoken highly of Mount since taking charge at United, and has started the midfielder in key matches against City and Arsenal.

However, Mount is set to miss the remainder of this year and the early weeks of 2025, with Amorim hoping to use that period to help the Englishman to further adapt to his tactics.

“Several weeks,” Amorim said on Friday when asked for a timeframe for Mount’s return.

“I don’t know the exact date but it’s going to be for a long time. That is not my department [to understand the underlying reasons for injuries].

“What I can do is to help Mason to teach him how to play our game when he’s recovering. Try to use that time for him to think about different things. The worst part is that we don’t have time to train like we should do when you are recovering from a lot of injuries.”
