Manchester United are back in action this weekend, with Thomas Frank’s dangerous Brentford side visiting Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Erik ten Hag is in desperate need of an improved performance after a shocking start to the new campaign has left him fighting for his job in Manchester.

The Dutch coach will need to see a higher level from the majority of his men in the coming weeks and having a fit pool of players is a must for the 54-year-old.

Mason Mount has been missing for the majority of his time at United and suffered another injury setback in the sobering defeat to Tottenham at the end of September.

As reported by The Athletic, the Englishman is back in training this week and should be available for selection at the weekend.

Having the midfielder back could is a huge boost for Ten Hag, who sees the former Chelsea man as a key cog in his tactical wheel.

United’s pressing style is far more effective with Mount in the side and for a team that wants to thrive on transitions, winning the ball back in high areas is central to that plan.

Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes has been struggling for form this season and has featured for Portugal in their two international games this week.

Mount has used the break to get back to fitness and could well be in line to start the weekend’s game in place of, or alongside, the United captain.

His energy would ease the load on Fernandes should they start together, with Bruno regularly finding himself chasing shadows in high pressing areas.

Mount’s one and only United goal has also come against Saturday’s opposition in the 1-1 draw at the Brentford Community Stadium last season.

The 25-year-old will be champing at the bit to get back on the pitch and kick start a United career that has stalled since his £55 million move last summer.

With just eight points registered from their opening seven games, United sit 14th in the Premier League table and in dire need of the three points this weekend.
