Faris Moumbagna’s (24) season quickly unravelled when he ruptured his ACL minutes into his substitute appearance during Olympique de Marseille’s first game of the season. However, L’Équipe writes that the Cameroon international is edging closer to a return to fitness and on his current trajectory he should be back in the team by the start of spring.
The striker will find a much-changed team from the one that lined up to defeat Stade Brestois 5-1 at the start of the campaign. Moumbagna was set to be the backup option to the summer signing Elye Wahi. However, his injury necessitated Marseille to dip into the transfer market and led to the arrival of Neal Maupay from Everton.
Wahi’s poor performances have seen the striker linked with an early exit and relegated to second choice behind Maupay (and perhaps third behind the promising teenager Robinio Vaz who impressed on his debut). It will have to be seen, how Moumbagna will now fit into a squad that has spent half a season working under Roberto De Zerbi
