Olympique de Marseille have confirmed that Adrien Rabiot (29) has been placed on the transfer list, just one Ligue 1 match into the season.

The France international joined OM last summer on a free transfer after leaving Juventus, and was left out of training sessions on Monday and Tuesday following the club’s 1-0 defeat to Rennes on the opening day. According to L’Équipe, Marseille have made clear that the decision was taken collectively by president Pablo Longoria, sporting director Mehdi Benatia, and head coach Roberto De Zerbi, rather than by the latter alone – as claimed earlier in the day by Rabiot’s mother and agent, Véronique.

The midfielder’s behaviour around Friday’s fixture is said to have been a determining factor in OM’s decision to separate from the player before the end of the transfer window. A formal statement from the club is expected in due course from Les Phocéens.GFFN | George Boxall
