Marquinhos: ‘I'm going to keep this moment in my heart for the rest of my life’. | OneFootball

Now the most capped player in the club's history with 438 official matches played in 11 years with Paris Saint-Germain, Marquinhos spoke to our media following the celebration of his record at the Parc des Princes last Sunday. Here are some extracts.

Marqui, congratulations on your record. What was it like celebrating at the Parc des Princes?

‘It was a dream evening for me. I slept very well and I thought about this moment that I'll never forget, I'll keep it in my heart. I think that with the win and the performance against Lyon, it was a great end to the evening for me and for the whole team. It was a great honour and a great source of pride for me and, above all, for my family. I spoke to them after the ceremony, and for everyone it's a moment that remains in our hearts.’

You left the pitch to the applause of the Parc. What was that moment like for you?

‘It was a special moment for me. I took the time to really walk out and thank the Parc. I think they were acknowledging me, it's been eleven years here after all... That's a long time. There are a lot of things, a lot of matches, a lot of shared moments. We've always been on the same path together and I think the Parc has taken the time to thank me for everything I've managed to do here, and for this record. And I've taken the time to thank them, because it works both ways. It's a nice moment for everyone.'

After the match, there was this meeting with the fans. Was that a special moment for you?

‘Yes, of course. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank them for being there after the match, for taking time out of their day. The next day, the children have to go to school and people have to go to work, so I wanted to thank them. It was a great moment for me. I was able to say meet a lot of people. I saw lots of people smiling, proud of the moment we shared. For me, there's nothing more special. I think I'll keep this moment in my heart for the rest of my life.'

You were also accompanied by your family for this special moment...

‘The family, Carole, the children... Everyone sees the daily sacrifices and I think they share all the difficulties and the good times. And that's why when the good times come, we enjoy them together, because it's important. In football, things move so fast. That's why in the good moments, you really have to make the most of them. These emotions are the most beautiful things you can have.'

So Paris Saint-Germain and you, is it a real love story?

‘Yes, it's real. That's why I said it in my speech. I took the time to thank the Chairman and all the people who work at the club and who make this club what it is. We need to move forward and grow in the same way that the club has grown. And I think that includes moments like this, to show the players the value they have.'
