Reece James was expected to be starting for Chelsea in the Leicester game following the international break last weekend – but we found out late in the week that he had picked up a hamstring injury and would miss the game.

It seemed minor at first, but a rather scary Instagram post from the defender a week ago made us all very concerned the injury-prone defender had picked up another major issue. Since then we’ve been in the dark, with talk of a scan on the issue circulating.

We hoped that tonight’s press conference with Enzo Maresca would finally bring the update we’ve all been impatiently waiting for, but in fact it’s brought more confusion than ever. Is it really serious, or not that bad? There were very mixed messages from the coach:

“Yes, we cannot say because we do not know how long the recovery time is. He is getting better day by day. We are waiting for him,” Maresca responded when asked about the scan.

He was pushed for more details later, and still didn’t really clarify if it’s a matter of days, weeks or months.

“We do not know exactly so we will not say how many days he needs. It is something he has to fight in terms of it’s normal, when you get injured, you become afraid, it’s normal on that. At the same time, it is his profession. You can get injured.”

Well we wanted a little more clarity, but until there’s a scan and a timeframe, there’s not much more to say. James’ injuries are going to be with him for the rest of his career it seems, and we’re just going to have to enjoy him whenever he’s available.
