According to the latest reports from Spain, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is not giving up on his dream move to Barcelona and is pushing hard to make the transfer happen.

It is no secret that Barcelona are keen on signing a left winger this summer. At one point, the race to become their next left-sided forward was between Rashford and Liverpool’s Luis Díaz.

However, between the two Premier League wingers, Díaz proved trickier to sign due to his price tag and Liverpool’s firm stance that he is not for sale.

Reports emerged that Rashford’s camp had met with Barcelona sporting director Deco, holding positive talks over a potential transfer.

Given United’s number 10 was available for a modest £40 million fee, it seemed likely that the Catalan giants would pursue his signing.

Nico Williams’ talks changed Barcelona’s transfer plans

Just when Barcelona were expected to turn to Rashford, Nico Williams entered the equation.

The Athletic Bilbao winger, determined to resurrect his failed 2024 move to Camp Nou, held meetings with Deco and expressed his desire to join the club.

With the Spanish international eager to do whatever it takes to complete the deal, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this week that Barcelona were now seriously considering the signing.

While personal terms are unlikely to be an issue, the €58 million (£49.5 million) release clause, which must be paid in full upfront, remains a significant hurdle.

This financial obstacle is what Rashford hopes to exploit, aiming to position himself as Barcelona’s preferred winger signing, according to Marca.

The 27-year-old continues to insist to those close to him that he wants to move to Camp Nou. He has made it clear to them that he is willing to make sacrifices within his power to join them.

While Rashford acknowledges that both Díaz and Williams are likely ahead of him in the pecking order, he still believes he has a chance to sway the European giants, who showed interest in him last winter.

Rashford’s belief in sealing the move

Marca describes Rashford’s optimism, writing, “he is confident that his predisposition to wear the Barça shirt and a more affordable price than his rivals, together with his talent, are his greatest assets in securing a place in Hansi Flick’s squad for the 2025/26 season.”

Interestingly, Aston Villa, according to the same report, are still hoping to persuade Rashford to return to Villa Park. However, his sole focus remains on securing a switch to Spain.

Currently on holiday in Marbella, the United forward is awaiting news from Barcelona, hoping they will make a decisive move to complete his transfer.
