New team council put together

Marco Friedl will continue to lead Werder out onto the pitch in the upcoming season, with Jens Stage his vice-captain.

“Marco is entering his eighth season with us, which speaks for itself. It was clear to me very quickly that he is the leader of our team. He is an important point of contact for me, therefore there was no reason to consider changing him as our captain,” explained head coach Horst Steffen.

“For me, it’s a real honour to be going into my fourth year as captain of a great club like Werder Bremen. I’m also pleased that the new coaching staff have put their trust in me to continue in this role,” said Friedl, who will be deputised by Jens Stage in the new season.

Alongside the two captains, the rest of the team council for the upcoming campaign is made up of Michael Zetterer, Leonardo Bittencourt, Niklas Stark, Romano Schmid, and Senne Lynen.
