Manchester United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer pulled out of his side’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest today with an injury.

Sabitzer was in the starting XI for the game but had to drop out. Christian Eriksen replaced him, with Nathan Bishop taking a spot on the bench.

Eriksen has just returned from an injury that kept him sidelined since February. He played for the first time in United’s win over Everton last week.

Second-choice left-back Tyrell Malacia was not in the squad for the Forest game as he was struggling with a sore knee.

United manager Erik Ten Hag explained that the problem started last week and was too much to deal with today.

Luke Shaw was also out injured, so right-back Diogo Dalot played there. The Portuguese international was impressive and grabbed his first Premier League goal.

United’s injury list is growing. They have lost top scorer Marcus Rashford and hope to have him back soon.

Central defensive duo Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane suffered injuries in their Europa League tie against Sevilla.

Varane will return in May, but Martinez is out for the rest of the season. United are still without Donny Van De Beek and attacker Alejandro Garnacho.

Their injury situation is not looking good, with crucial games coming thick and fast.

However, Ten Hag is navigating the situation well. He acknowledged United had played plenty of games due to deep runs into cup competitions.

Ten Hag said (via Man United’s official website): “You see how quickly things can change – last week we had nine fit defenders, today we had four.

“We need the numbers especially, as we are one of a few teams in Europe who are playing a lot of games, and we need the numbers to stay in competitions because we want a good team every time we step on the pitch.

“Today was one step where we proved we can perform really well with those players, and Thursday we have to go again, and Sunday we have to go again.”
