Manchester United have appeared to drop out of the race to sign Germany forward Giovanna Hoffmann this summer.

The Red Devils had been eyeing up a move for the 26-year-old RB Leipzig star, to give them extra depth ahead of a season they hope to challenge for the Women’s Super League and Champions League.

United are in action on Wednesday against PSV, in the second qualifying round of the Champions League.

Head coach Marc Skinner was asked about Hoffman during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

Why are Manchester United dropping out of the race to sign Giovanna Hoffmann?

Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner said that the Red Devils are not meeting RB Leipzig’s valuation of forward Giovanna Hoffman.

He said ahead of United’s clash with PSV on Wednesday: “Right now the valuation, we’re [not] meeting in the middle, so right now that doesn’t look like something that can happen.”

Skinner though was keen to point out that United hope to strengthen their attacking options before the September 4th deadline.

He said: “I must stress, we’re looking in those forward areas so we have an array of options we’re looking at.”

The BBC reported that representatives from Manchester United stayed behind during their pre-season fixtures to try and work out a deal for Hoffmann.

A deal now looks unlikely unless there is a u-turn by either club before the deadline.

Who have Manchester United signed this summer?

Manchester United have signed two experienced internationals to bolster their squad before the new season.

Midfielder Julia Zigiotti Olme joined the Red Devils from Bayern Munich for an undisclosed fee, before United signed Fridolina Rolfo on a free transfer after she mutually agreed to terminate her contract with Barcelona.

Rolfo though will miss the Champions League clash against PSV, after Skinner said she would be out for “two or three weeks”.

United could also see some outgoings before the September 4th deadline.

Grace Clinton has just one year left on her contract and there have been rumours that Manchester City could look to sign her this summer.

However, it would be a bold move for Clinton to switch clubs across Manchester, when United are in the Champions League this season and City failed to qualify.

United have little less than two weeks before they start their Women’s Super League season.

Skinner’s side will open their campaign against Leicester City on Sunday, September 7th.
