The Red Devils confirmed the news via a post on their official club website just a short time ago.
The 23-year-old stopper has initially signed on at Leigh Sports Village until summer 2027, however, Manchester United have the option to extend the deal by a further year. It is understood that The Red Devils have paid an undisclosed fee to secure the player’s services from Southampton.
Rendell is a product of the Southampton academy system having joined the club as a nine-year-old. She successfully graduated to the first team and established herself as the club’s number one goalkeeper. In her time at St Mary’s Stadium, Rendell made 134 appearances for Southampton in all competitions.
It is fair to say that Rendell is one of the brightest young goalkeepers in the English game. Her qualities were recently recognised by England head coach Sarina Wiegman who offered the player a first senior international call-up. Rendell is still awaiting her senior debut for the Lionesses.
After completing her move to Manchester United, Rendell said “It’s a dream to be signing for Manchester United and I can’t wait to join the group and get started.
“I want to thank Southampton for all the support and opportunities they have given me since joining as a nine-year-old girl. I will always cherish so many fantastic memories of my time there. Now I’m ready to take the next step in my career and play my part in pushing for success at United.”
Rendell is Manchester United’s first signing of the January transfer window.
