Manchester United see-off Crystal Palace with victory in Leigh | OneFootball

Manchester United’s impressive Barclays Women’s Super League campaign continued with a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace at the Leigh Sports Village this afternoon.

Elisabeth Terland netted a brace while Grace Clinton was also on target as The Red Devils saw-off the threat of the league’s bottom club.

Terland opened the scoring for Manchester United after nine minutes. Following an error from visiting keeper Milla-Maj Majasaari, Hinata Miyazawa perfectly knocked the ball to Terland who drilled it into the bottom right corner of the net.

The forward almost had the opportunity to get The Red Devils’ second. She had possession on the edge of the box but was tackled to the ground and the ball was caught by Majasaari. Leah Galton then made an impressive run down the left-hand side and whipped a low delivery towards Terland whose effort hit the post.

After keeping the scoreline down to a single goal, Crystal Palace found an equaliser just before half-time through Mille Gejl. Lily Woodham dinked the ball over the Manchester United back-line and Gejl charged into the box and fired her effort beyond Phallon Tullis-Joyce.

The hosts had the opportunity to regain the lead again as Majasaari left the net wide open for a Terland shot, but the ball went just past the post.

A moment of chaos in the box then saw Majassari spill the ball towards Leah Galton, who tried her luck at goal, but her effort was caught by the Crystal Palace keeper before Ella Toone was denied by Allyson Swaby.

After showing a lot of patience, Manchester United finally got their second goal through Terland. Clinton’s pass deflected off My Cato and the ball fell Terland’s way. The forward went on to fire a shot past the visiting goalkeeper.

Cato then saw a shot cleared off the line as Crystal Palace searched for a second equaliser before Manchester United made sure of the victory through Clinton. She added her name to the scoresheet when she sent a looping header into the net from a Toone free-kick.

Manchester United return to action after the international break when they play host to Leicester City while Crystal Palace have a home fixture against Liverpool.
