The beleaguered manager has seen his squad struck by a number of injuries
Ruben Amorim has revealed how Amad Diallo suffered his season-ending injury.
The Manchester United winger has been ruled out for “months” with ankle ligament damage suffered in training this week in a significant blow to Amorim, whose side lost 1-0 at Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.
United’s injury woes saw them field eight teenagers on the bench, all of whom had never played a minute of Premier League football.
Speaking after the defeat, Amorim explained how Diallo suffered the ankle injury and offered a timeframe for when Leny Yoro and Christian Eriksen could return.
“It’s hard to know,” said Amorim, when asked when United’s 12 first-team absentees could return.
“Let’s wait a few more days. Leny and Chris were sick, so they will recover. Of course, Chris has the heart situation and we have to be really careful with that. It’s nothing to do with the heart, but the heart rate just has to be controlled because he has a fever.
“The rest we will see. I think Kobbie [Mainoo] is out [against Everton]. Amad is out, for sure, I think until the end of season.
“Amad was alone [when he got injured]. He was doing a tackle. The feet were stuck in the grass. Some players felt sickness during training. We will try everything to have the players fit. I was always asking for one week. In one week, we lost so many players. We have one moment when everything is going wrong.”
Asked whether Mainoo’s muscular injury is expected to keep him out of action for months rather than weeks, Amorim replied: “I don’t know, let’s see. I think weeks.”
Amorim also reflected on United’s performance in the defeat to Spurs, which was settled by James Maddison’s first-half strike and left the Red Devils 15th in the table.
He said: “The big difference was the goal they scored. We didn’t score. We had chances.
“We had a different approach with the players that we had. We had to change in the week. We created situations. In the end the biggest difference was that they scored and we didn’t.”
