As transfer windows go, few sagas carry the intrigue or intensity of Benjamin Sesko’s decision day. The Slovenian striker stands at the heart of a tug-of-war between two of English football’s most ambitious sides, with Manchester United and Newcastle United both vying for his signature. The stakes are high, the anticipation palpable.
Newcastle’s bold £70million offer was met with resistance from RB Leipzig, who are insisting on a sell-on clause. David Ornstein of The Athletic confirmed the German club’s firm stance, adding complexity to an already layered negotiation. Despite the setback, the Magpies’ intent remains unshaken.
Manchester United, for their part, have not tabled an official bid. However, according to trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano, they are prepared to match Newcastle’s offer. Romano shared on his YouTube channel: “We are entering into really important stages. The agent of Sesko is in Leipzig to speak with the player and help with negotiations. It’s decision time.”
Romano further explained: “Manchester United made clear to RB Leipzig on Saturday night that they will send a bid for Sesko if the player opens the door. They feel he is still deciding; he hasn’t decided to go to Newcastle. Manchester United made new contact with Leipzig.”

For Eddie Howe, Sesko’s indecision stings. The Newcastle boss has already seen striker targets Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo and Hugo Ekitike slip through the net. Today’s deadline, set by the club, is seen as a pivotal moment in their summer strategy.
If Sesko opts against joining the Tyneside project, the Daily Mail reports that Newcastle will swiftly pivot to Paris Saint-Germain’s Goncalo Ramos. It would mark a return to a previous target, first pursued before the club opted to sign Alexander Isak.
Sesko’s preference is thought to be Old Trafford, though he has yet to make his intentions clear. With agents and clubs in motion and the clock ticking, the future of one of Europe’s most exciting young forwards now hinges on a single decision.
This feels like it could finally be the striker signing we have waited for. Sesko has the profile that fits our style, youth with raw talent and room to grow. The way Fabrizio Romano talks about United’s stance gives me belief that we are serious this time. “They feel he is still deciding,” Romano said — which means we’re very much still in the race.
Let’s be honest, this isn’t just about filling a gap up front. It’s about setting a direction under the current regime, and Sesko could become the face of that project. If the club match Newcastle’s bid and Sesko gives the green light, we should move quickly and decisively.
The only concern is the recurring hesitation from top young players to pick Newcastle despite their money. If Sesko rejects them too, that sends a message. For United, it would represent a small but symbolic victory over a direct challenger.
If we land him, it’s a statement. A player courted by clubs across Europe choosing Manchester United despite our struggles in recent seasons? That’s what this badge should still mean. Let’s not let this one slip.
