Manchester United have expressed an interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, as per reports.

At the moment, United appear to be focused on strengthening their attack, as they work on finding an agreement with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo. They have also agreed a deal to bring Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, the Red Devils’ goalkeeping options are equally concerning, and both Andre Onana and Altay Bayındır face uncertain futures at Old Trafford.

The club’s hierarchy seemingly recognise the issue, as it has been reported they are exploring the market for a new shot-stopper.

According to French publication L’Équipe, Donnarumma is on United’s radar.

The PSG number one is inarguably one of the best shot-stoppers in Europe, having played a key role in Italy’s Euro 2020 win and his club’s maiden Champions League title this season.

However, the Parisians are struggling to tie him down to a new contract, with his current deal due to expire at the end of next season.

It is understood the Ligue 1 giants have held talks with the Italy international but negotiations have not progressed significantly.

PSG want to lower his salary and hand him an incentive-based contract which has become a norm at Parc des Princes under Luis Campos. However, the 26-year-old is not very keen to accept such terms.

The stand-off has led to question marks over his future in the French capital, so much so that he has discussed the possibility of a move to the Premier League with his teammates while on international duty with Italy.

While Onana has left fans and pundits alike frustrated with his erratic style of goalkeeping, Donnarumma has consistently impressed with his commanding performances at club and country level.

Having said that, it is going to be difficult for United to tempt him away from Paris as INEOS are also wary of handing out lucrative contracts. Further, they face competition from Manchester City, who have also shown an interest in the Italian.
