Manchester United lost their 13th game of the Premier League season on Monday, getting thrashed 0-4 by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Erik ten Hag was forced into a few key changes as both skipper Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire suffered injuries in the build-up to the game.

The England international’s absence meant the Dutchman was forced to pair Casemiro and the recently-fit Jonny Evans at the back, the 14th different centre-back partnership this season, and the results were far from satisfactory.

The former club captain has enjoyed something of a career renaissance this season due to the numerous injuries at the back and he has grabbed his opportunity with both hands.

Maguire’s resurgent second season under EtH

The 31-year-old has started 25 games as compared to 16 last term and has four goals and two assists with the Dutchman publicly praising the former Leicester City star for his effectiveness and his ability to play through the pain barrier.

Maguire was close to leaving the club last summer with West Ham United even agreeing a fee, only for the deal to fall through due to wage issues.

The Peoples Person had relayed that INEOS were happy with the £80 million signing and were keen to keep him at the club and even extend his deal which ends in 2025.

But Football Insider have now claimed that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has agreed to sell the former Hull City star with the club expected to take a £60 million hit.

“Harry Maguire is set to leave Manchester United this summer as part of the planned overhaul of the squad, sources have told Football Insider.

“The England international’s contract is set to expire in June 2025, prompting the club to cash in on the centre-back before he could leave for free next year.

“It means United will accept a cut-price offer this summer, with around £20 million likely to be enough to seal a deal.”

INEOS to sell Maguire

The Hammers have once again been linked with a move for the United man while surprisingly, links with Tottenham Hotspur also emerged while the club remain open to a swap deal involving Jarrad Branthwaite headed this way.

The Red Devils need to raise capital as PSR concerns rise and a large-scale clearout is being planned and it seems despite a resurgent campaign, Maguire’s time at The Theatre of Dreams is drawing to a close.

The England international was always a decent player who always gave his all for the club but his lack of pace and advancing years meant he never could quite please the massive fanbase with the player subjected to plenty of abuse over the years.

His professionalism has been a standout feature and the defender certainly has the skill-sets to thrive at some other Premier League club if he does indeed end up leaving.
