Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham has publicly criticised Marcus Rashford for seeking a move away from Old Trafford, particularly to Barcelona.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Sheringham expressed his disappointment over the forward’s desire to leave, labelling the entire situation as “soul-destroying.”
Rashford, who has spent a decade at Manchester United, has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for the club. However, his recent career trajectory has been rocky.
In January, he joined Aston Villa on loan, looking for a fresh start after a breakdown in his relationship with manager Ruben Amorim.
During his stint at Villa, Rashford managed 2 goals and 3 assists in the Premier League, but after missing out on Champions League football on the final day of the season, Villa chose not to make the move permanent.
Now, Rashford finds himself in limbo. He has handed in a transfer request and made it clear he wants to leave Old Trafford.
With Barcelona ramping up their search for a winger following Nico Williams’ contract renewal at Athletic Club, Rashford has emerged as one of the names on their radar.

Despite the links, Sheringham believes Rashford has not done enough to justify such a move.
“If you assess where Marcus Rashford is as a professional footballer, you strive as a youngster to reach the top and play for clubs like Manchester United.
“When you get there, you should appreciate it,” Sheringham said.
He added, “You don’t just throw it away and say you want to leave. I find the whole episode soul-destroying. Back in my day, players dreamed of this kind of opportunity.
“To hear Rashford talking like this reminds me of when Aubameyang forced his way out of Arsenal, and I didn’t like that either.”
Sheringham went even further, stating, “From my perspective, going from Manchester United to Barcelona is a step up that Rashford hasn’t earned.”
As Rashford waits for clarity on his future, Barcelona are still undecided. For now, the English forward remains at the centre of a transfer saga that continues to divide opinion.
