Manchester United are on the lookout for a striker to ease the burden on Rasmus Hojlund who was overused in his debut campaign due to a lack of options at Erik ten Hag’s disposal.

But finding the right personnel will be key with the cub intent on utilising the Dane as their main man upfront. The new addition has to be content with playing second fiddle.

Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly the top priority for the club currently but the Dutch striker is mulling over staying back in Serie A where he is guaranteed to be the focal point of the team while the Red Devils are yet to iron out certain clauses including wage demands and the contract length.

There have been shock links with Alvaro Morata and Victor Osimhen while versatile forward Ademola Lookman has also found mention recently.

Calvert-Lewin’s injury troubles

An even more surprising name has now been linked with a move to Old Trafford — Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton. The England international netted eight goals last season while also registering three assists.

Injury troubles have plagued him in recent years with the 27-year-old missing over 70 games in the last three seasons.

United fans will not be too pleased with this developing link as the club very recently finally got rid of Anthony Martial, a striker who has remained perennially injured in recent years.

Prior to those niggling injuries, Calvert-Lewin had scored a combined 36 goals in two seasons which led to links with all the top English clubs including United at one stage.

I News have now claimed that the former Sheffield United man, whose contract with the Toffees is valid until 2025, is looking for potential suitors before speaking with the Merseyside club over a new contract.

Everton had slapped a £40 million price tag on the Englishman which meant Newcastle United were forced to look elsewhere. The 20-time English league champions and AC Milan are also interested but only if a more realistic valuation is applied. The striker’s current market value stands at €22 million (£18 million).

United interested in DCL

“Dyche kept the club in the Premier League with room to spare but concerns over goalscoring need to be addressed over the summer transfer window. There remain doubts about Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future, with insiders suspecting he is scoping out his options before committing to a new contract.

“Newcastle were put off in the preliminary stages of transfer negotiations with Everton by a valuation close to £40 million, which seemed like an attempt to ward off potential suitors. AC Milan and Manchester United have also been credited with an interest.”

United are also looking at Jarrad Branthwaite to shore up their defence but Everton’s unrealistic valuation has meant a deal has not transpired till now despite the player agreeing personal terms.

Everton are also eyeing two United defenders — Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka and this could potentially lead to a massive player exchange between the two clubs with the Toffees still needing to sell players in order to balance the books before June 30.
