Manchester United goalkeeper decision set to hinge on sales | OneFootball

Manchester United will decide between pursuing a deal to sign Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens or Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.

Ruben Amorim is prioritising the signing of a centre-forward and goalkeeper before September’s deadline, but the club’s business hinges on the ability to raise funds from sales.

United have committed £133.5m to the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo and need to offload unwanted assets to fund further significant business.

Marcus Rashford has agreed a loan exit to Barcelona, while suitors are being sought for Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia. The ability to raise funds could determine which goalkeeper the club pursue.

Talks for Martinez took place earlier this summer, with Aston Villa open to his sale due to Premier League Profit and Sustainability rules. However, a price tag in the region of £40m appears prohibitive without substantial sales.

United are weighing up a move for Lammens as a more cost-effective alternative. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the club have made initial contact to discuss the conditions of a potential deal.

The 23-year-old starred for Royal Antwerp last season, leading the Belgian Pro League for saves and expected goals prevented. Lammens is valued at around €20m (£17.3m) by the Belgian side.

Manchester United had been open to offers for Andre Onana with a new goalkeeper on the agenda this summer, but the Cameroon international’s hamstring injury is set to deter suitors. Onana is expected to miss the club’s pre-season campaign. His absence has heightened the need for additions in goal.
