The Red Devils announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.
The pair will officially leave The Leigh Sports Village when their contracts come to an end later this month.
Youngster Aherne has come through the Manchester United youth system. The 21-year-old has largely gained her senior footballing experience playing away from Manchester United in recent seasons having turned out for the likes of Burnley, Everton and Sheffield United on loan. Aherne has been on Manchester United’s books for eight years.
Experienced defender Mannion joined Manchester United in summer 2021 after leaving neighbours Manchester City. The 29-year-old Republic of Ireland international centre-back has provided a valuable voice for The Red Devils both on and off the pitch. Mannion has made 55 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions. She helped the club qualify for Europe twice and has also won the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with Manchester United.
While Manchester United are saying their farewells to both Aherne and Mannion, the club are expected to be very active bringing in new faces this summer. Head coach Marc Skinner is keen to bolster his squad ahead of next season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign.
