Joshua Zirkzee hasn’t been able to build on his exciting debut at Manchester United, and four months after he arrived at Old Trafford some senior club figures are doubting he can raise his level, sparking rumours of a potential departure.

The enthusiasm for Zirkzee’s goal against Fulham in his first Premier League game with the Red Devils has rapidly faded, as the former Bologna striker has failed to find the net in the following 16 matches he played across all competitions.

While Manchester United’s poor form this season, which also led to the dismissal of Erik Ten Hag, hasn’t certainly helped, the performances of the Dutch forward were far from meeting the expectations of the club, who are now convinced their €40m signing is not the goalscorer they thought he could be.

As a result, Manchester United are expected to look for a ‘dependable goalscorer’ in the transfer market next year, which means they would need to either sell or loan out at least one between the Netherlands international and Rasmus Hojlund, who’s also struggled to find goalscoring consistency.

Juventus were among the teams linked with Zirkzee in recent weeks, as they currently only have Dusan Vlahovic as a central striker in their squad.
