It had been expected that Nuno Mendes (22) would sign a contract extension at Paris Saint-Germain, however, Manchester United could throw a spanner in the works, according to a report from Florian Plettenberg.
Mendes arrived at PSG in 2021, initially on loan before making the move permanent for €38m one year later. Even despite Lucas Hernandez’s arrival in the summer of 2023, the Portugal international continues to play a prominent role. The left-back was restricted to just six Ligue 1 appearances last season due to recurring injuries, however, he has been prominent so far this season, in part thanks to Hernandez’s knee injury.
As an important player within the squad, PSG have been keen to extend Mendes’ deal, which expires in 2026. The new deal being discussed would run until 2029 and talks have been progressing, according to Fabrizio Romano. However, in the search for a left-back, Manchester United have identified Mendes as a target, as well as AC Milan’s Théo Hernandez.
As “many top suitors” may show an interest in Mendes, Plettenberg, understands that there are currently no plans for the defender to extend his current deal with PSG, at least in the short term. Manhcester United are aware of this situation and could yet profit from it.
