According to a report from AS, Manchester United have joined the race with Real Madrid to sign Sevilla’s promising player, Juanlu Sanchez. The outlet says that the Red Devils have been keeping close tabs on the versatile footballer during his recent performances.

Juanlu, who primarily plays as a right-back for Spain, has caught the attention of scouts from both clubs after his impressive displays during the Olympic Games.

In these matches, he helped his team secure the gold medal. His ability to contribute in different positions is one of the key reasons he is attracting interest from top European teams.

A versatile asset

Juanlu’s versatility has been a standout feature in his performances. While he is recognised as a right-back, he has also been deployed in more advanced roles, including as an inside midfielder or just behind the striker.

Sevilla’s coach, Garcia Pimienta, has utilised him in central midfield due to the club’s current issues in that area. This shift has revealed an unexpected strength in the young player’s game – his ability to score goals.

During the Games, Juanlu scored a crucial goal against Morocco, helping Spain progress to the final. He has also found the net for Sevilla, scoring a vital goal on the opening day of the season against Las Palmas, which secured a point for his team.

Interestingly, his goal-scoring ability, combined with his physical attributes has made him a highly sought-after player.

Meanwhile, it must be noted that Real Madrid have also been monitoring Juanlu for some time, recognising his potential. His contract with Sevilla runs until 2026, and with a release clause currently set at €20 million, they are now considering renewing his contract to increase that figure.

As the January transfer window approaches, both Manchester United and Real Madrid are expected to compete for his signature, and the young player will likely have the upper hand in determining his future.
