Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes sent a message of support for on-loan winger Jadon Sancho after the latest round of Premier League fixtures.

The England international returned to United training at the start of pre-season after spending the second half of last term on loan at Borussia Dortmund, having publicly fallen out with Erik ten Hag last year.

Despite Sancho’s heavy involvement in pre-season, he was left out of the club’s opening Premier league squads.

This sparked rumours that he would depart with Juventus considered favourites for a lot of the summer.

Nonetheless a deadline move to Chelsea came to pass where he went on loan but the Blues have an obligation to buy if they finish above 14th in the table.

Sancho spoke glowingly of his return to his native London and has claimed that he has been made to feel very welcome at the club, which could be understood as a dig at Ten Hag and United.

After coming off the bench to provide an assist for a late Christopher Nkunku winner against Bournemouth, Sancho posted on Instagram to celebrate.

He wrote, “delighted to make my Chelsea debut, and to top it off with a win!”.

Interestingly United captain Bruno Fernandes responded to the post in a very positive way, commenting “some player you, keep that smile.”

Despite the obvious bad blood between Ten Hag and Sancho, it is clear that the latter is still liked within the Old Trafford dressing room.

The reaction was perhaps a little surprising considering not only the acrimonious way Sancho left United but also that he is playing for a direct rival in the Premier League.

Nonetheless, it has to be said that the culture in modern football is quite different to the past, where it is very common for rival players to embrace each other before and after matches and show support for one another even though it can sometimes irk supporters.
