In a recent report, RMC Sport claimed that Manchester United are set to rival Chelsea for Paris Saint-Germain keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer. It has been stated that the Red Devils are showing interest in bringing the Italy international to Old Trafford this off-season.

Donnarumma’s Excellent Season In French Football

The 26-year-old enjoyed a good run of form at the French club in the previous campaign when he produced a run of solid displays for them in Ligue 1. Donnarumma shipped in 43 goals and secured 17 clean sheets in 47 matches for PSG last season in all competitions.

The Italian talent helped Paris Saint-Germain secure the UEFA Champions League trophy earlier this year and is currently among the best keepers in Europe. Therefore, Man United would do well to win the race for his services this summer.

Donnarumma is under contract at the Ligue 1 club until next summer, which could open the door for the Red Devils to get a deal done for him on the cheap this off-season.

Should Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim Go For Donnarumma?

Donnarumma can be a safe pair of hands in goal when he is playing at the top of his game. He is a solid handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make a few decent saves at the back for his team.

The Italian sensation doesn’t mind clearing his lines when needed and is a good passer of the ball from the back. He can even his commanding 1.96m frame to dominate his penalty area when coming out to collect loose balls and crosses.

However, it remains to be seen whether Donnarumma can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League. Still, we can expect him to enhance the quality of Man United head coach Ruben Amorim’s backline.

Donnarumma would serve as an upgrade over Andre Onana, who struggled to find consistency for the Mancunian club last season. At 26, the Italian keeper is about to enter his prime, which makes him an excellent option for Man United to pursue this summer. Thus, Amorim should focus on going for a keeper of his quality before the end of this transfer window.
