Manchester City’s asking price for Ederson may now end transfer talks with Galatasaray as the Turkish side struggle to meet demands, according to new reports.
The latest developments come after weeks of mounting reports pointing toward the Turkish Super Lig champions’ strong interest in the 31-year-old, including claims that personal terms had been agreed in principle and that negotiations with City were progressing.
Publicly, the Istanbul club’s manager Okan Buruk had even gone as far as naming Ederson as “a very important option” for his side. However, questions lingered over whether the Turkish giants could truly meet the full financial package required to finalise the deal.
Earlier in the summer, Ederson had sought to shut down speculation around his future while on duty at the FIFA Club World Cup. Speaking in the United States, he stated, “My future is here [at Manchester City]. Some friends send me a lot of news but 99 per cent is fake.”
Despite his defiance, talk of a departure intensified across the following months, fuelled not only by Galatasaray but also by Napoli’s interest, which eventually fell apart due to feasibility issues on the Italian side. Since then, even Fenerbahçe have been linked with a potential bid.
Now, according to the information of Sabah – as translated and relayed by Sport Witness – talks concerning Galatasaray and Ederson have stalled due to Manchester City’s €20 million price tag on the goalkeeper and the Brazilian himself requesting an annual salary of €10 million.
However, from the perspective of Fanatik, Galatasaray are still trying to convince City over a transfer fee of €10 million, with Ederson still standing as their No.1 target for the goalkeeper position this summer.
City’s €20 million valuation is, in relative terms, a modest sum for a player of Ederson’s quality, experience, and trophy-laden CV. However, for Galatasaray – operating within tighter financial parameters and with a domestic wage structure to balance – meeting that fee alongside a reported €10 million salary package presents a considerable hurdle.
It now appears increasingly likely that unless Manchester City significantly drop their demands, the Turkish club may be forced to abandon talks, and Pep Guardiola would certainly have no problem in retaining his long-standing number one choice between the sticks.
Elsewhere within Manchester City, Stefan Ortega’s future is still unresolved after the club had re-signed James Trafford from Burnley, opening the door to the German being the most likely exit within the existing senior goalkeeping ranks.
Public messaging from the player and the club remains steady. Ederson is still contracted until 2026, and despite online pressure earlier this summer – which saw his wife Lais Moraes restrict social media comments following abuse – there has been no formal indication that the player is pushing for an exit.
