Manchester City are assessing the possibility of signing Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins.
The Italian international is no longer regarded as PSG’s first-choice option after the club confirmed the arrival of Lucas Chevalier from Lille.
Donnarumma’s situation worsened when his name was left out of the squad for the 2025 UEFA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur. This decision has raised questions about his long-term future in Paris.
City have reportedly opened talks with the 26-year-old, and early discussions indicate personal terms will not pose a problem. The player is understood to be eager to make the move to England.
Donnarumma is in the last year of his contract at the Parc des Princes. Negotiations over a new deal have stalled, which is part of the reason PSG are willing to consider a sale.
Reports from Fabrizio Romano suggest the Ligue 1 side values the goalkeeper at around €50 million. However, a transfer will only be sanctioned if Ederson leaves the Etihad Stadium this summer.
The French champions are believed to have already mapped out their goalkeeping plans for next season, with Chevalier set to take the number one spot.
For now, City are keeping a close watch on developments. Ederson’s future remains uncertain, and if he departs, Donnarumma is seen as a strong candidate to replace him.
The 2021 European Championship winner has been with PSG since joining from AC Milan in 2021.
With Pep Guardiola’s side aiming to remain competitive on all fronts, securing a reliable replacement between the posts would be a priority should Ederson move on.
If City decide to make a formal approach, it would mark one of the summer’s most high-profile goalkeeper transfers.
Both clubs are now expected to monitor each other’s movements before taking any concrete steps.
