Fifth hosts fourth with just two points separating the sides in the table. Pep Guardiola will want a response from his players, who blew a two-goal lead to lose at Paris Saint-Germain in midweek. That defeat ended an encouraging upturn in form from the Citizens, who thrashed Ipswich 6-0 in their last Premier League fixture.
Chelsea climbed back into the Champions League places after beating Wolves on Monday night. However, the Blues have been unconvincing of late with that 3-1 success their first win in six Premier League games.
Chelsea have also failed to beat Manchester City since the 2021 Champions League final – a run of 10 games in all competitions.
Pep Guardiola confirmed on Friday that January signings Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov will all be included in the squad to face Chelsea. The arrival of the former in particular has caused excitement at the Etihad. Marmoush scored 20 goals and created 14 more in 26 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt over the first half of the season.
The signings of defensive duo Reis and Khusanov are also well timed. Guardiola revealed that Ruben Dias has an adductor injury after the centre-back’s half-time substitution against PSG.
He joins Nathan Ake, Oscar Bobb and Rodri as absentees for this weekend’s game.
Manchester City predicted XI: Ederson; Nunes, Stones, Akanji, Gvardiol; Kovacic, De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva; Foden, Savio, Haaland.
Manchester City host Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday 25th January 2025. Kick-off at the Etihad is 17:30 GMT.
