La Liga’s Girona and sister club of Premier League champions Manchester City will play a part in the next generation of England coaches, a new report has detailed.

The Catalan club have been on a sensational rise in the top-tier of Spanish football this season, surprising many in their construction of a serious pursuit at the top of the La Liga table, alongside competition from Real Madrid and FC Barcelona in particular.

Girona play a crucial role in the City Football Group and Manchester City’s respective development of some of the finest young talents in the global game, with Yan Couto and Savio among the starring figures in this season’s competition.

However, a new report has revealed how Girona and their overall operation is being used as a hub and example for the next generation of up and coming coaches in England, including a former Manchester City striker.

That is according to the information of Jack Gaughan, writing in the latest edition of MailSport’s Man City Notebook, who reveals that the ‘next generation’ of England coaches are with Manchester City’s sister club, Girona, this weekend.

It is detailed that the travelling party of rising England coaches includes Manchester United midfielder Tom Huddlestone, alongside former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, Everton icon Leighton Baines, former Man City striker Darius Vassell, and Ricky Lambert.

As part of their trip to Catalonia, Jack Gaughan reports that those on the scheme will be in attendance at Girona’s La Liga clash with Cadiz, as well as taking in a site visit at the club’s training facility.

But it isn’t just up and coming coaches that are being developed through Girona, with the club’s own head coach being eyed by Manchester City themselves in a staggering claim from Spain this week.

Reports elsewhere, as part of a deep dive into the future of Manchester City beyond Pep Guardiola, have indicated that Míchel Sanchez of Girona has been named as a possible candidate to succeed the legendary Etihad Stadium coach.

Guardiola’s current agreement with Manchester City, penned in the autumn of the club’s Treble-winning season, is due to expire at the end of next season, and at present there is no sign of any conversations or negotiations around another extension.
