Officials at Manchester City have reached an agreement with Rosenborg for the signing of highly-rated central midfielder Sverre Nypan, according to reports.

The teenager made a visit to England during the January transfer window, as widely reported, with the Etihad Stadium attended by the player alongside his family and agent Rafaela Pimenta – who also represents Erling Haaland.

The group are understood to have attended Manchester City’s Premier League victory over Chelsea, with Nypan and his entourage seated within the corporate box of the aforementioned Norwegian striker.

As part of the same visit, Nypan also made a trip to Arsenal to discuss the North London club’s proposal for the player, before ultimately preferring Aston Villa as his next destination, with City’s idea being for a permanent switch to Girona.

However, following a significant twist in developments and plans from the side of Manchester City officials, the player is now closing in on a switch to the Etihad Stadium as part of a wider development structure in place for the midfielder.

That is according to the information of The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who reveals that Manchester City have now reached agreement with Norwegian club Rosenborg to sign Sverre Nypan.

It is revealed that the two clubs involved have agreed a fee of £12.5 million with no further contingencies or sell-on clauses included in the agreement, and while personal terms still need to be finalised, a proposed contract until 2030 is said to be on the table.

Subject to the completion of a deal for the midfielder, Nypan is reportedly expected to go out on a season-long loan to continue his development in European football, with no mention of interested parties at present.

The teenage talent could become the fifth signing for Manchester City of the ongoing summer, having secured deals for four new arrivals in time for registration for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

Three arrivals secured by Hugo Viana are expected to be considered for immediate first-team opportunities, with Rayan Ait-Nouri bolstering the defence through his natural position of left-back, and Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki coming into the midfield.

Manchester City begin their Club World Cup campaign with a contest against Wydad AC in the group stage of the tournament, with fixtures against Al Ain and Juventus to follow in the United States.
