The future of Kevin De Bruyne remains in doubt ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Belgian having ‘not yet said no’ to a blockbuster offer from Saudi Arabia.

The Belgian playmaker will be entering into his final year of Etihad Stadium contract when the forthcoming new season gets underway in August, and while Manchester City are likely to open conversations over a renewal, such talks are yet to begin.

De Bruyne is a highly-respected figure within the Etihad Stadium, and is also the current longest-serving player in the squad having joined in the summer of 2015, and as such City are likely to allow the 32-year-old the space to make a decision in his own time.

Simultaneously, a number of suitors are likely to keep an eye on the situation over the course of the coming months, and while Saudi Arabia are expected to be in the conversation over a bid sent to City, Major League Soccer is set to remain an option for later in De Bruyne’s career.

Now, according to the information of the Independent’s Miguel Delaney, Kevin De Bruyne has ‘not yet said no’ to an offer from the Saudi Pro League, which is claimed to stand at around €70 million a year.

It is detailed that the Belgian’s ‘preference’ would be to stay at the Etihad Stadium if a ‘reasonable deal’ is offered by club bosses, however it is reminded that Manchester City ‘can be slow’ in extending contracts of players in their thirties.

The report does however reaffirm that manager Pep Guardiola ‘actively wants’ two attacking midfielders in the upcoming summer transfer window, with Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes and West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta among the options.

De Bruyne remains a focal point in Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City system, and has showcased his importance to the side since returning from hamstring surgery and subsequent rehabilitation earlier this year.

Across just 21 appearances in all competitions so far this season, De Bruyne has already established himself as one of the key goal contributors, with six goals and 16 assists to his name – most of which have happened since the turn of the year.

In the meantime, the Belgium international’s focus will remain on the pitch with Manchester City pursuing an unprecedented fourth successive Premier League title and the retaining of their FA Cup crown at the end of the month.
