Pep Guardiola has today provided an injury update on a key trio of players ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Nottingham Forest. The City manager had an update on the status of Rodri, Erling Haaland and Ederson during his pre-game press conference today. Based on Pep Guardiola’s update it doesn’t appear that Manchester City will have any players back from injury for their trip to Wembley. But Guardiola’s update on the injured trio did provide some positive news on their recovery from injury.
The most likely player who could return this weekend appears to be Ederson. When asked if the City’s number-one keeper could be available for the FA Cup semi-final Guardiola told the media: “We’ll see. Eddie is coming back training a little bit. But I don’t know if he’ll be ready for this game, hopefully the next one.”
Based on Erling Haaland’s recent social media posts he is working his way back to fitness. Pep Guardiola told the media Haaland isn’t yet training with the team. Guardiola explained: “He feels better. I said before I don’t know when. It’s not a comfortable injury. You have some twist in your ankle and then taping. It’s not comfortable. He’s not a small guy but he’s getting better step by step. Still, he doesn’t train with the team but we will see how he does.”
Finally, Guardiola revealed that Rodri is eager to return to the pitch. But the Manchester City manager is waiting for the doctor’s approval before Rodri returns to action. Guardiola explained: “Every training session he does with us, he does well. But I don’t know. Rodri wants [to play] but the doctor will have to say ‘Pep you have green light to give him minutes. I want to rely on the doctors in that case.”
Based on Pep Guardiola’s update Ederson is the only player who could potentially return this weekend. That won’t be known until the Manchester City squad arrives at Wembley on Sunday. Guardiola’s update on Erling Haaland and Rodri’s recovery from injury was positive but their returns don’t appear to be imminent just yet.
