Etihad Stadium officials now know just how much it would take to secure the services of one of their primary transfer targets for an attacking midfield refresh.

Manchester City are expected to further expand their remarkable spending spree into the next summer market despite an outlay north of €200 million on four new arrivals during the recent winter window.

Txiki Begiristain, along with reported guidance from incoming Director of Football Hugo Viana, sanctioned the signings of central defensive duo Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, alongside a new defensive midfielder and attacker.

FC Porto’s Nico Gonzalez was brought in on a sensational deadline day arrival for a €60 million fee, while Omar Marmoush arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt after drawn-out negotiations with the Bundesliga club over a big-money move.

And with the common belief being that Manchester City may still need to recruit in the attack midfield positions in particular, the future of one of their widely-reported targets has seen an update in recent days.

According to the information of BILD’s Christian Falk, Jamal Musiala’s brand new contract extension with Bayern Munich running until the summer of 2030 includes a release clause worth an eye-watering €175 million.

Speaking in September, transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano said of Musiala’s future, “I can guarantee to you that all the top clubs, including Real Madrid, including Manchester City, including more clubs in England – they all love Jamal Musiala.”

However, it remains to be seen just how much the new deals and inclusion of a release clause will affect the stances taken by some of the continent’s biggest and most financially powerful clubs on Musiala.

For Manchester City, they are likely to have a number of options targeted for the attacking midfield position as Kevin De Bruyne’s future remains in doubt, with Musiala’s Germany international colleague Florian Wirtz also of interest.
