Etihad Stadium officials seemingly have their attentions set on the profile of a right-back that could be brought into Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City squad this summer.
It follows a season where there has been plenty of change from Guardiola’s side of things as the Catalan tactician has rotated his somewhat restricted right-back options throughout the course of the campaign.
Those headaches became even more complex at the midway point of the season when Manchester City’s re-elected club captain Kyle Walker signalled his intention to leave the club and ultimately secured a move to AC Milan on-loan until the end of the campaign.
As such, Manchester City’s right-back options for the remainder of the season were Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes, with the latter holding down the role for the majority of games due to his ability to drive forward with the ball and pace in transition.
But it seems as though Guardiola and City’s recruitment team do not view either player as the long-term solution to their right-back issues, as they plot investment in the role during the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to the information of Sky Sports News, Manchester City are interested in Flamengo right-back Wesley, with the 21-year-old said to be one of a number of names being assessed by the club in the role.
It is however pointed out that Wesley has also been tracked by many other Premier League and European clubs, including rivals Liverpool and Manchester United, and could cost as much as £30 million this summer.
Other candidates for Manchester City in their search for a new right-back this summer could include Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento, with there known to be admiration from the side of the Etihad Stadium club.
Much of that interest and it’s ability to develop into something more concrete over the coming weeks will likely depend on City’s chances of securing their more prioritised targets as well as the asking price of a direct Premier League rival.
Further afield and there is also understood to be interest in Juventus’ Nicolo Savona and Andrea Cambiaso, with the latter believed to be the most expensive of their options but also the most versatile given the ability to operate on both sides of defence.
As for what the future holds for Kyle Walker, Manchester City officials will most likely try to facilitate a permanent exit for the veteran defender, with AC Milan holding a €5 million option to buy in their loan agreement for the player.
