Stefan Ortega could yet take up the opportunity to extend his Manchester City contract by a further two seasons, a new report has detailed amid ongoing uncertainty.

The former Bundesliga stopper has enjoyed a significant increase in game time and opportunities for Manchester City this season, maintaining his domestic cup outings but appearing in high-profile contests against the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool.

A large part of those opportunities can be credited to a string of freak injuries sustained by mainstay number one option Ederson, with the Brazilian’s latest issue sustained in a 0-2 win over Tottenham and a significant blow to the head in a clash with Cristian Romero.

While Manchester City will be more than content with the performances of Ortega, there remains a lingering doubt over whether the 31-year-old will be at the club heading into the 2024/25 season.

Ortega’s current Manchester City contract runs until the end of next season, but given his strong performances for Pep Guardiola’s side this campaign, a number of clubs are likely to capitalise on the player’s desire to become a mainstay number one for a European club.

Nevertheless, and according to the information of Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’ on X, Stefan Ortega wants to stay at the Etihad Stadium, and has been waiting for the end of the season to consider a proposal.

It is further detailed that the offer on the table from Manchester City would add another two years to the German goalkeeper’s existing agreement with the club, and feature a ‘significant’ pay rise until June 2027.

Uncertainty surrounding Stefan Ortega comes at the same time as issues surrounding Ederson, with the Brazilian currently linked with big-money interest and an ambitious proposition from Saudi Arabia this summer.

It is widely believed that such is the size and scale of offers from the Saudi Pro League that high-ranking Manchester City officials are somewhat concerned that the 30-year-old could bring an end to his seven-year stay with the club in the coming weeks.

Should either of the aforementioned shot-stoppers leave this summer, then Manchester City will no doubt purchase a replacement option in the same window. However, at present, there are no concrete links in the wider media.
