Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have now found out their opponents for the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-finals, should they make the last-eight of the competition.

The Premier League giants take on Al Hilal in the first round of the knockouts at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando in the early hours of Tuesday morning for viewers and supporters in the United Kingdom.

The clash against the Saudi Pro League giants comes after Manchester City became the only side to win all three of their group stage fixtures, cruising past Al Ain and Juventus after securing an opening tournament win against Wydad AC.

Pep Guardiola and his City players subsequently secured first position in the Group G standings and banked themselves a more favourable pathway to a potential Final in New York later this month.

Taking on Simone Inzaghi’s Al Hilal in the last-16 of the tournament, City then found out that they would take on Inter or Fluminense in the last-eight, with Palmeiras or Chelsea in the semi-finals of the competition.

And after another fixture concluded on Monday night, a clearer view of the route to the showpiece Final of the expanded competition has emerged.

It has been confirmed that should Manchester City manage victory over Al Hilal on Monday night, they will take on Fluminense in the second Club World Cup running after the Brazilian giants shocked the globe by defeating Inter 0-2 earlier on the same night.

Goals at either end of the 90 minutes from German Cano inside just three minutes and Hercules in additional time at the very end of the game sent the Italian side crashing out of the competition just weeks after their UEFA Champions League Final crushing by PSG.

Inter’s disappointment in the United States also comes off the back of a late defeat in their chase for last season’s Serie A crown, ultimately claimed by Antonio Conte’s Napoli – who have further strengthened by signing Kevin De Bruyne this summer.

Should Manchester City manage to qualify for the last-eight of this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, it will be an opportunity at revenge for Fluminense after they were defeated by Pep Guardiola’s side in the Final of the 2023 edition of the tournament in Saudi Arabia.

A Julian Alvarez brace, a strike from Phil Foden, and an own goal from Nino saw Manchester City cruise to a 4-0 win in Jeddah to claim their fifth title of the calendar year, following on from the likes of a maiden UEFA Champions League crown and UEFA Super Cup glory.
