The transfer valuation placed on Manuel Akanji has now been met, it has been confirmed, with the player now debating his Manchester City future.

The Swiss star has been the subject of growing transfer interest, with Galatasaray emerging as the most determined suitor. Reports from Turkey earlier this week suggested the two clubs involved were closing in on an agreement, with suggestions that an official proposal would be presented directly to the player after the finalising of terms.

Those claims, however, took a twist when Fabrizio Romano reported that a £15 million club-to-club agreement had already been reached. Akanji himself responded to those claims, commenting, “Don’t know anything about that”, on social media before Romano’s original Instagram post was deleted.

Despite the pushback from the 30-year-old, multiple updates have since reiterated Galatasaray’s intention to secure his services. Alongside Akanji, reports have also linked Galatasaray with an ambitious summer swoop for other Manchester City names.

In the meantime, and according to the information of MailSport’s Jack Gaughan, Manuel Akanji is currently debating his future after Galatasaray confirmed a willingness to hit Manchester City’s £15 million valuation of the Switzerland international.

It is detailed how the Turkish champions not only want to sign Akanji this summer, but also remain keen on doing a deal for Manchester City’s number one goalkeeper Ederson, and also hold long-standing interest in Ilkay Gundogan.

Alongside Galatasaray and the Turkish giants’ offer of matching City’s valuation of Akanji this summer, it is also revealed that the 30-year-old has interest elsewhere and will now be allowed to determine his next steps.

For City, the potential exit of Akanji comes during a summer of flux in defence. Vitor Reis has headed out to Girona on a temporary deal for the ongoing campaign following his January arrival from Palmeiras, while questions have lingered over John Stones amid persistent injury struggles.

Nathan Aké has also been the subject of tentative interest, though no concrete offers have yet materialised, and recent links to fellow Premier League side Everton have been shut down by regional media reports.

If Manuel Akanji does ultimately opt for the move to Istanbul, Manchester City are unlikely to dip back into the transfer market for another defensive reinforcement, given the plan of trimming down their squad during the final days of the summer market.

With Galatasaray willing to pay the full valuation and the player weighing up options, the next steps rest firmly in Akanji’s hands. Should he decide to move on, his departure would bring an end to his Etihad Stadium career after three seasons, and an illustrious spell in sky blue.
