Today’s FA Cup final represents one of the final games for Manchester City that Kevin De Bruyne will play. An FA Cup final is a special occasion at the best of times. But with a club legend in the final stages of a storied career at the club, it does provide extra motivation for Pep Guardiola’s side for today’s match. The Manchester City manager has spoken of this ahead of today’s match.
Speaking during his pre-game press conference yesterday, Pep Guardiola explained that his team are motivated to win the FA Cup for a club legend. Guardiola added that it would be nice to see De Bruyne pick up one more trophy. He told the media yesterday: “Of course Kevin wants to do it for us and the team and of course we want to do it for him but you have to perform, behave and do something.”
“It would be nice. He was not the captain for many, many years but he’s lifted already a lot of trophies. He lifted 19 trophies in 10 years, which is not bad!”
“He’s played a lot of important games. One season he was injured all year but the rest he has been a key player for us.”
“If he can lift one more that would be good but he’s lifted a lot.”
Manchester City will face a quality Crystal Palace outfit at Wembley today. Oliver Glasner’s side packs a punch and is capable of getting at Pep Guardiola’s team at Wembley. They won’t roll over and allow City the opportunity to send off De Bruyne in style. The Manchester City squad will have to be at their best to win today. But they do appear to be determined to do
All week, we have heard the City players speak about what Kevin De Bruyne means as a teammate. They have spoken of their determination to send him off in style today. Winning the FA Cup would be a special moment to end Kevin De Bruyne’s City career. As would victories over Bournemouth and Fulham next week.
But in a game that could be a tight contest the extra motivation to send De Bruyne in style could push Pep Guardiola’s side on today. It’s another interesting subplot in what figures to be a quality FA Cup final today.
