Etihad Stadium bosses have reportedly allocated the necessary funding for Pep Guardiola to make up to two new signings during the January transfer window.
The Manchester City team has been heavily impacted by fitness and injury problems during the opening months of the ongoing season, with two major issues inflicted on Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Oscar Bobb became the first casualty to Pep Guardiola’s side having sustained a fractured leg during a Manchester City training session prior to the Premier League opener to Chelsea in mid-August.
Rodri then sustained anterior cruciate ligament damage during the dramatic 2-2 draw against Arsenal, requiring surgery and ruling him out for the entirety of the season and leaving Pep Guardiola and his staff with the ultimate selection dilemma.
Alongside a number of other problematic injuries in the squad, Manchester City have seen their options severely restricted at the busiest phase of their season, and that has led to drastic action ahead of the reopening of the transfer window.
According to the information of Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Premier League champions Manchester City will have the money available for Pep Guardiola and his recruitment team to strengthen their playing squad in the upcoming January market.
The report explains that the necessary financial resources are now available at the Etihad Stadium for one or two new first-team arrivals in the new year, largely to make up for the injury status within the squad roster.
Manager Pep Guardiola has already played down the possibility of January transfer business as a result of his ongoing injury situation, telling reporters during a recent media conference, “Maybe in January we’ll have the whole squad fit, except Rodri, Oscar [Bobb] in the last stages.”
The Etihad Stadium head coach continued, “When we are all together, the squad is enough; it’s complete, nice, top, and everybody is completely focussed and fit.”
Without extra investment, City are already likely to introduce one new name into their first-team squad, with Argentine youth international Claudio Echeverri set to join Pep Guardiola’s roster following a loan at River Plate upon formally signing for the club last January.
Media reports around Manchester City’s decision on the exciting teenage attacking midfielder have stated that a first-team debut before the end of the ongoing season remains possible if Echeverri was to impress in training.
