Here are the City player ratings as Manchester City began the 25/26 season with an emphatic 4-nil win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. A brace from Erling Haaland and goals from Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki were enough for Pep Guardiola’s side to begin the new season in dominant fashion.
Outside of the scoreline in Manchester City’s victory, there were a host of positives to take from Manchester City’s performance. After a tricky opening half-hour of the game, City put their foot down when they needed to. Goals from Erling Haaland and Tijjani Reijnders in the 34th and 37th minute put the game to bed by halftime. When needed Pep Guardiola’s side did what they had to do to ensure they began the new season in style. In the second half they put the game to bed to snuff out any chance of a Wolves comeback. It was a professional display from Pep Guardiola’s side to start the new season.
James Trafford- 8/10: A superb performance in goal from Trafford. He commanded his area brilliantly and made several good saves.
Rico Lewis- 8/10: Grabbed an assist for Haaland’s opening goal and inverted into midfield when required. Played well before he was substituted.
John Stones- 8.5/10: If anyone ever forgets how good John Stones is he showed that today. He was superb at the back and offered plenty im possession. Keeping Stones fit could be crucial to Manchester City’s season.
Ruben Dias- 6.5/10: Not his best performance. At times he was sloppy in possession but defensively he was solid when required.
Rayan Ait-Nouri- 7.5/10: A composed Manchester City debut from Ait-Nouri. Defended well and was good in possession.
Nico-8.5/10: The Spanish midfielder showed exactly what he adds to this Manchester City squad. Played the Rodri role to perfection.
Bernardo Silva- 6.5/10: Cannot fault his workrate although he wasn’t at his best. His leadership did stand out while he was on the pitch.
Tijjani Reijnders- 10/10: An utterly brilliant Premier League debut from Reijnders. Scored a goal, grabbed an assist and set up City’s opening goal. Everything good in Reijnders’ game was on display at Molineux.
Oscar Bobb-9/10: Bobb was brilliant. Picked up an assist and gave the Wolves defence fits on the right wing.
Jeremy Doku- 6/10: Doku started the game well but drifted out of proceedings before being substituted. Not his best display.
Erling Haaland- 8.5/10: Scored a brace and led the line superbly for his team. An ominous start to the new season for Manchester City’s number-nine.
Matheus Nunes-6/10: Nunes didnt have a lot to do after coming off the bench. But there were some nice touches and tackles put in by Nunes.
Nico O’Reilly-6.5/10: O’Reilly looks set to play more in midfield this season. Like Nunes he showed a bit and some of his passing caught the eye.
Omar Marmoush-6/10: Had some heavy touches but put himself about after he came off the bench.
Rayan Cherki-8/10: A brilliant cameo display from Cherki. Scored a quality goal and his flicks and tricks were superb.
Abdukodur Khusanov- N/A: Not on long enough to mark.
