Manchester-born midfielder reveals ambition to join Pep Guardiola’s Etihad Stadium coaching staff | OneFootball

Serie B midfielder and Libyan international Ahmad Benali has revealed an ambition to join Manchester City’s first-team coaching staff in the future.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has seen a number of changes to his coaching staff at the Etihad Stadium, and the 53-year-old has been joined by former players in the past, including both Mikel Arteta and Enzo Maresca.

Guardiola and Arteta will do battle in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, with Manchester City and Arsenal currently part of another dramatic race for the Premier League title, as just one point separates the Gunners, Blues and Liverpool.

Former Manchester City first-team coach Maresca could also battle Guardiola next season, with Leicester City currently seeking to secure automatic promotion back to the top-flight, after the Foxes were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Vincent Kompany, who made 62 appearances under Guardiola and famously scored a crucial goal against Leicester in May 2019 to help City win the Premier League title, is also the current manager of Burnley.

Guardiola has ultimately had a huge impact on a number of management careers, with former Everton and Chelsea manager Frank Lampard recently revealing that he received advice from the Catalan.

Manchester-born and Manchester City supporting midfielder Ahmad Benali has now revealed an ambition to work with Guardiola at the club, as the 32-year-old considers his plans after a playing career.

Benali, who currently plays for Serie B side Bari, has played for a number of Italian clubs during his career, including Brescia, Palermo, Pescara, Crotone and Pisa.

The Libyan international was born in Manchester, but left the country to pursue his playing career in Italy.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Bari, Sport Witness relay quotes revealing the midfielder’s ambition to return to his boyhood club Manchester City in a coaching capacity.

“I support Manchester City, when I was 8-9-years-old they were in the third division, to see them today among the top clubs makes me very happy, in the future I would also like to join the coaching staff.

“I have always played outside (of the UK), it was a great experience, but the goal for the future remains to represent the team of my city.”
