Manchester United are reportedly considering three candidates for the sporting director role. However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is in no rush to make a decision following the unexpected departure of Dan Ashworth. As a result, it might explain the latest news on replacing Ashworth.
The 53-year-old took on the role over the summer after a prolonged effort to lure him away from Newcastle, with the move reportedly costing the club up to £10 million.
Just five months into the position, Ashworth’s departure was announced on Sunday, leaving new minority shareholders INEOS in an awkward position.

TalkSPORT reports that Manchester United are already looking at three candidates for the vacancy. Dougie Freedman is considered the favorite, with the experienced Campos also in the running.
Additionally, technical director Jason Wilcox is seen as a strong internal option and could be promoted to the role. However, pursuing Campos or any executive might not be part of the club’s plans.
The Sun reported that Manchester United have decided to completely scrap their sporting director role and have no plans to replace Ashworth.
Campos isn’t only linked to the Red Devils. Last month, Robin Bairner of Football Transfers reported that Arsenal approached Campos about replacing Edu.
