Man Utd make major Stretford End change after fan consultation | OneFootball

Manchester United have started work removing executive seating from the Stretford End at Old Trafford in order to reclaim the space for more affordable 'general admission' tickets.

One of the biggest criticisms of an Old Trafford matchday in recent years has been some traditional everyday fans being priced out in favour of more hospitality and premium tickets.

Two prime seating areas right in the middle of the Stretford End, the most iconic stand at the stadium where the most ardent and vocal supporters have typically gathered over the decades, had given way to executive seating – identified by its darker red colour.

But, following consultation with United's Fans' Advisory Board, that will be changing as the latest of several "fan-centric steps" taken by the club – others already in place the installation of rail seating for safe standing and a dedicated atmosphere section.

The executive seating started being ripped out on Monday and the mini project is intended to be completed in time for the 2024/25 season next month. It pre-dates Sir Jim Ratcliffe's arrival at the club as co-owner, having first been announced in January 2023.

"We are delighted that from August the Stretford End – one of the most famous and iconic stands in world football – will once again be accessible to all fans," Rick McGagh, director of fan engagement, told ManUtd.com.

"It is the heartbeat of our ground and has been the backdrop to many last-minute winners and incredible moments over the years.

"The re-introduction of general admission tickets, along with the additional youth season tickets, The Red Army atmosphere section and a thousand loyal season tickets relocating to the Stretford End from other parts of the ground will really make a difference and create an incredible atmosphere to support the team."

United have also begun renovation work on the players' tunnel at Old Trafford, while a £50m redevelopment of the training ground that will last the duration of the 2024/25 season is also underway. The latter has sparked controversy as the men's team are reported to have been given preferential access to the recently opened women’s team building while their own is out of bounds.
