Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte was visibly happy when the club closed in on a deal for Ruben Amorim on the same day they sacked Erik ten Hag, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Old Trafford club parted with the Dutchman on October 28, 2024, before announcing on November 1 that Amorim would succeed him as the permanent boss.

Ugarte was delighted to reunite with his former manager. The Uruguay international joined the Red Devils in the summer from Paris Saint-Germain after just a season in France.

He had spent two seasons at Sporting CP before moving to the Ligue 1 club, and he could not have imagined that he would be working with Amorim again.

Ten Hag did not want Ugarte signed, but former sporting director Dan Ashworth did, and it is no surprise that he could not contain his excitement once it became clear who was replacing the Dutchman.

The 23-year-old has become a force to be reckoned with at Man United following an uninspiring start to life at the Theatre of Dreams under Ten Hag.

He has featured in 11 out of the 12 games the Portuguese has overseen since taking over, missing one game as a result of a suspension after accumulating five yellow cards.

Ugarte has been one of the consistent top performers under Amorim, and Casemiro is expected to leave after falling behind him in the pecking order.

Ashworth did not last long at Man United, but helping them land the Uruguay international could prove to be one of the best transfer decisions the club have made in a long time.
