Manchester United’s 0-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday was yet another clear indication that Ruben Amorim needs more help upfront.
The Red Devils had three times more shots than Forest while also dominating possession but due to lack of cutting edge up top, the visitors failed to get on the scoresheet.
The head coach’s decision to play Joshua Zirkzee as a lone striker did not help as the Dutchman is far more comfortable as an attacking midfielder while dropping Rasmus Hojlund after his two goals last month was another strange decision.
Both strikers have struggled to find the back of the net this season and it is imperative that INEOS bring in a ruthless centre-forward in the summer.
While Amorim would prefer a reunion with Sporting CP protege Viktor Gyokeres, the Swede does not want a move to Old Trafford, which is why the club have moved on to Victor Osimhen.
The Nigerian has no qualms about playing for the 20-time English league champions even if there is no Champions League football on offer.
Osimhen has 26 goals this season for loan club Galatasaray and has been dubbed a “force of nature“. Which makes it pretty obvious that lots of club will be interested in the Napoli ace with Juventus being one of them.
However, as per Juve FC, the 26-year-old has rejected the Binaconeri’s advances and made it clear to them that he prefers a move to the Premier League.
Chelsea, Arsenal and United are the three clubs in England with the most chance of landing the Galatasaray loanee while there is also interest from Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
“According to JuveFC sources, Juventus recently held a meeting with the representatives of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen to discuss a potential transfer. The Bianconeri outlined their vision and ambitions, hoping to convince the Nigerian international to make the switch to Turin.
“However, Osimhen reportedly responded with gratitude, politely acknowledging Juventus’ interest while making it clear that his priority is to secure a move to one of Europe’s top clubs.
“The striker is particularly keen on joining a Premier League side, with Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea among his preferred destinations.”
Osimhen’s wage demands and Napoli’s asking price will be quite steep and for a deal to materialise, big-name sales could be on the cards at United.
Whether a blockbuster deal can be concluded remains to be seen. The three-time European champions are keeping a close watch on cost-effective options like Liam Delap, Lorenzo Lucca and Dusan Vlahovic as well.
