Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly eager to end his woeful Old Trafford stint prematurely and join Juventus this month.

The Bianconeri were heavily linked with the Dutchman last summer, especially after appointing Thiago Motta as their new head coach. The manager would have loved to extend his prosperous collaboration with the unconventional striker following their time together at Bologna. However, it wasn’t meant to be, as the Red Devils splashed £38 million to secure the player’s services.

However, the fallen Premier League giants have been enduring a miserable campaign, and Zirkzee was made to pay the price in a recent unsavoury episode that saw him cheered off by his own supporters at Old Trafford after being hauled off the pitch in the first half with his team trailing by two goals.

In Sunday’s contest at Anfield, the Man Utd supporters extended an olive branch to the attacker by chanting his name. Nevertheless, the player’s situation at Carrington remains delicate, and even Ruben Amorim failed to rule out an immediate exit.

“I want to keep Josh Zirkzee because he gives everything. He is trying in training but we don’t know what will happen. The window is open so we’ll see,” said the United manager following Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

According to JuveFC, the former Bologna man is open to joining the Turin-based giants in January, so it is now up to the two clubs to find an agreement about the formula.

At this stage of the season, the Bianconeri cannot afford to splash the cash to seal a permanent transfer, as they also have to bolster their defensive department. Juventus are thus seeking an initial loan deal with an option to buy the player, but United insist on inserting an obligation-to-buy clause.

So it remains to be seen if the two parties will be able to reach a definitive agreement on the matter.
