Manchester United are keeping tabs on Italian midfielder Davide Frattesi.

The Red Devils clearly lack many things as they sit 14th in the Premier League table, but in a familiar problem they have failed to dominate the midfield battle in most matches they have played.

Manuel Ugarte has impressed in his recent outings but Kobbie Mainoo has failed to live up to the high expectations he set last year as he has often looked lost in Ruben Amorim’s system.

Casemiro and Christian Eriksen were brutally exposed against Newcastle United last time out where Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville claimed that they looked like “mannequins”.

Amorim’s system depends on dynamic, powerful players, especially in the heat of the midfield battle and as a result, United have been linked to Frattesi.

TEAMtalk report that “Newcastle have shown an interest in Inter’s Frattesi – who is valued at around €50m despite his lack of game time this season.”

“Premier League rivals Manchester United and Tottenham have also enquired about the 25-year-old’s situation and Roma are keen to bring him back to the Italian capital.”

AS Roma’s interest in the player may not go too far however, as Inter won’t entertain a player-plus cash arrangement therefore, the Premier League looks the Italian’s “most likely” destination.

It is also stated by the website that while Inter may be open to a sale in the summer, it would not be until after the Club World Cup in July.

Frattesi has played 21 times this season in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

The Italian international has been described as “one of the most promising young Italian talents of his generation.”

Frattesi is a “dynamic, technically gifted, and physical midfielder, who is known for his stamina, tactical qualities, and ability to assist his team both offensively and defensively.”

The 25 year old could perhaps provide a nice balance with Manuel Ugarte by matching his physical energy but also bringing more to the table from a technical perspective.
