Man United in talks with Arsenal over compensation fee for Chido Obi-Martin with positive outcome expected | OneFootball

Manchester United are in talks with Premier League rivals Arsenal to seal a deal for teen goal sensation Chido Obi-Martin.

Last month, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that United had successfully warded off competition from England and abroad to land the highly-rated Obi-Martin.

The 16-year-old left Arsenal after his contract expired. The Gunners made attempts to extend his stay in North London but the forward rejected their overtures.

United presented him with an ambitious project, which clearly detailed a pathway to the first team. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that once Obi-Martin officially joins the Red Devils, he will be considered the third striker, only behind Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Romano confirmed that Obi-Martin passed his United medical but warned that an announcement could take time as the deal would be subject to Premier League regulations.

Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic has now given an update on the situation.

Whitwell wrote for the newspaper, “Manchester United are negotiating with Arsenal over a compensation fee for Chido Obi-Martin after the Danish youth international completed his medical at Carrington.”

“Obi-Martin, the 16-year-old striker, has broadly agreed personal terms with United and the next step in the transfer is for Arsenal to accept an exit price.”

“The expectation is that talks will reach a positive conclusion, rather than go to a Premier League tribunal.”

Whitwell added, “Once a fee is agreed, given his age the Premier League will go through a ratification process, which could take several weeks. Obi-Martin is viewed as an academy signing rather than a player for Erik ten Hag.”

The expectation is that the youngster will become part of United’s U18s and U21s but he will be handed opportunities to train with the senior squad when appropriate.

Obi-Martin plundered an impressive 32 goals in 20 league games for Arsenal’s U18s last term.
