Manchester United fans have given head coach Ruben Amorim a grade of 5/10 for his first seven months in charge of the club.

This is according to a fan survey run by The Athletic, who asked fans the question “How would you rate Ruben Amorim’s performance as manager this season?”

It was a surprisingly positive result, given that United recorded their worst ever Premier League finish, broke almost every conceivable negative record in their history and failed to bring home any silverware.

Admittedly, only 25.5% of respondents gave the gaffer more than half marks, with 74.5% ranging between 1 and 5 out of 10. Yet only 4.6% gave him 1/10, while 24.5% – the most – put him at five.

Despite this low score, the responses to another question in the survey demonstrate that the majority of fans still have faith in the Portuguese to bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.

In response to the question “How far do you think United can go under Ruben Amorim?”, 38.8% said they think he will lead their club to the Premier League title.

31.6% said Amorim will get the Red Devils back into the top four.

30.1% opted for Europa League level or lower.

The fact that 70% of fans have that faith in the manager is borne out by another question in the survey, “What has been the biggest issue that has affected the team this season?”

A staggering 47.3% of respondents blamed player performance, 21.2% blamed the ownership and 11.3% blamed poor signings. Only 8.3% chose managerial tactics.

Putting all three questions together, it is clear that, whilst acknowledging he has not got off to a great start, United fans have seen something in their head coach that makes them believe in him.

They have his back.

Amorim recently said he would walk away from the club if he felt the board and fans don’t want him. INEOS have already spoken on the issue, and now, it would seem, the fans have too.
